Editing, design, and non-profit support
I’ve always been a bit of a nerd, and while it made being a teenager something of a challenge, I’ve grown to love the nerdy parts of who I am. I’ve made a career of them! I love data, I love systems, and I love reading.
Since I work a full-time job, I’m not a very fast freelancer—but if you have time, I have modest rates to make up for my slow-ish turnaround. I would love to work with you!
I’m happy to set up a free consultation over phone or e-mail to find out if we’re a good fit for each other.

Beta-reading
I do have a favourite side-job, and this is it: I love reading new work. I love hearing what a writer wants from their earliest readers, I love making notes in the margins and diving into the earliest stages of your precious stories. Working with me as a beta-reader gets you notes on character, plot, style, pacing, and any other big questions you may have on your story or manuscript.
Short stories: $50-250
Manuscripts: $300-1,000

Non-profit support
With ten years' non-profit work experience and a Masters of Information Science, I've developed a nice little roster of skills that can support non-profit organizations with systems, admin, strategic planning, and finance. I love the work I do at my day job, and I love when I can bring my skills and expertise to support other groups doing crucial work on shoestring budgets.
Services for non-profits might include data management, database assistance, strategic planning, organizational reviews, RFP preparations, or other work.
$1,000-5,000

Writing and editing
If you're looking for a trained editor to copyedit or proofread your work, or for a specialized service like SEO optimization, that's not the kind of writing and editing I can provide. (Check out Editors.ca for that!) What I can do is write to a brand (for blog posts, social media, newsletters, or websites), or "translate" technical information into reader-friendly content. I can also edit for style, consistency, and basic grammar and syntax.
Price varies by project.

Information design
I am not a designer! But I have a knack for streamlining content into reader-friendly documents or graphics (for newsletters or social media, for instance). Working with me to design brand materials is somewhere between asking your grandkid to help you out with making a flyer, and hiring an actual designer to create a custom portfolio using platforms like Illustrator and Photoshop. I use Canva, but I'm pretty good at it!
